The village of Alchi experiences extreme climatic conditions. Summers, extending from the month of April to June, are mild. A minimum temperature of 12°C is recorded during this season while the maximum temperature can rise up to 25°C. The temperature tends to fall during the night. The rainy season begins in July and continues till September. Monsoons bring sufficient rainfall to the region. The maximum amount of rainfall is received in the month of August. Winters in Alchi, lasting from December to February, are harsh and the temperature falls beyond -20°C. The maximum recorded temperature during winters here is approximately 7°C. The best time to visit Alchi is from the month of April to September.

By Road:

Located about 70 km from the village of Alchi, Leh can be reached via taxi cab or by hired jeeps. Hired jeeps are a common means of transport here. There are daily buses from Leh to Alchi except during winters.

By Air:

The nearest airport to Alchi is Leh, located at a distance of almost 70 km from the village. The Leh Airport connects Alchi to various cities in India like Pune, Delhi, Srinagar and Jammu. Frequent flights are available to Leh from Delhi. Visitors can avail taxis from the Leh Airport to reach Alchi.

By Rail:

The closest railway station from Alchi is at Chandigarh (in Punjab) and Pathankot. The distance between Pathankot and Leh is almost 278 km. Trains to Pathankot are available from various parts of the country.


The picturesque village of Alchi is located at a distance of 70 km to the west of Leh district in Jammu and Kashmir. It is situated on the banks of the Indus River at an altitude of 3000 meters and is a popular tourist destination of the area. There are limited shopping opportunities in this village. Several stalls in the region sell local handicraft products. Pashmina products sold in many stores in Alchi are very popular among tourists.


The gourmet dishes found in Alchi caters diverse palates. Traditional Ladakhi and Indian cuisine is served in various restaurants at Alchi. Continental cuisine as well as Chinese cuisine is also popular here. Both international and domestic guests can enjoy fresh, organic vegetables from the gardens.
