Coonoor experiences pleasant weather all through the year. The summer season is from March to May and is pleasant with temperature ranging from 15°C to 25°C. The monsoons between June and September are humid and bring in moderate rainfall. From December and February, is the winter season with the mercury level varying between 10°C and 20°C. The best time to enjoy magnificent scenic views is within March and May. The period between June and September offers lush green landscapes, October to February provides the ideal climate for indoor and out-of-doors engagements.

How To Reach

By Road:

State buses are regularly available from Ooty, Coimbatore and other cities of Tamil Nadu. Private bus services are also available from Coonoor to Mettupalyam, Coimbatore and Ooty. 

By Air:

Coimbatore Peelamdeu Airport around 70 kilometers away, is the nearest airport to Coonore, which has flights to other parts of South India, mainly Bangalore and Chennai. The nearest international airport is at a distance of 310 kilometers in Bangalore. Taxis are available from Coonoor to Bangalore airport.

By Rail:

Coonoor does not have a railway station and the closest broad gauge station is the Coimbatore railway station, around 46 kilometers away. Coimbatore station has trains running to the prime cities of India. An additional service is provided by the Nilgiri Mountain Railways that operates between Mettupalayam and Ooty and the trains halt at Coonoor.  


Situated among the Nilgiri Hills in Tamil Nadu, Coonoor is a pristine hill station located close to Ootty. The virgin hills of Coonoor are popular for its luxuriant green landscape, beauty of wildflowers and tea plantations.


The bountiful beauty of Coonoor is sure to engross every lover of nature. The picturesque landscape makes the place an ideal honeymoon spot. Most of the inhabitants of Coonoor area earn their livelihood by working in the tea plantations.


Conoor with its enjoyable cool climate is a perfect place for activities like hiking, trekking and bird watching. Birds like parakeets, thrushes, Nilgiri verditer, skylarks, pipits and cormorants are abundant in the area. There are also a variety of other species. A ride in the toy train at Coonoor offers a comprehensive view of the entire scenic landscape.


The picturesque area is a favorite of many film makers and has been utilized as the background for a number of movies, both Indian and overseas. One of the most distinguished films shot here is ‘A Passage to India’ by film maker David Lean. It is an American Film based on E. M. Foster’s novel and was released in 1984.


Good hotels suiting every budget are easily found in Coonoor. Coonoor offers many shops for domestic linen, cotton fabrics, eucalyptus oil, local handicrafts, Toda jewellery and off course, its famous aromatic tea.
