Dhanaulti experiences typical sub tropical climatic conditions making it pleasant in summers and cold in winter months. The summer season from April to June attracts a lot of tourists from the plains seeking respite from the harsh Indian summers. The summer temperatures of Dhanaulti range between 25 to 30 degrees Celsius making it a perfect time to explore the hill town. The monsoon rains between July and September bring adequate rainfall making the hills look surreal and beautiful with advancing waterfalls. The winter season from October to February can be too cold for comfort with temperatures dropping below freezing point in December. Adventure tourists visit Dhanaulti in winters for snow camping. 

How To Reach

By Road:

Dhanaulti is well connected by motor able roads with major destinations of Uttarakhand state. Located on the Mussorie Chamba national highway buses and Taxis to Dhanaulti are easily available from major destinations of Uttarakhand including Dehradun, Mussorie, Haridwar and Nainital.

By Air:

Dhanaulti does not have a dedicated airport facility and the Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun is the nearest Airport situated at a distance of 83kms. Jolly Grant Airport is well connected to Delhi with daily flights. Bus and cabs are easily available from Jolly Grant Airport to reach Dhanaulti.

By Rail:

Dhanualti does not have a dedicated railway station and the nearest railway station are the ones located in Dehradun (60 Kms) and Rishikesh at a distance of 83 Kms. Both Rishikesh and Dehradun railway stations are well connected with all major Indian cities and towns having a regular influx of trains. Bus and cab services are freely available from both Dehradun and Rishikesh to visit Dhanaulti.


Dhanaulti is a popular hill station located in the Tehri Garhwal district of Uttrakhand. Dhanaulti is also the base camp for more serious trekking trails with regular excursions available for Kempty Falls, Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamnotri glaciers.


Being a small hill town, there are no fancy restaurants in Dhanaulti but most local eateries and cafes serve a wide range of gourmet foods catering to the needs of the travelers. Local cuisine of dal-bhat is freely available in most small road site eateries and dhabas. Surkhananda Devi Fair that is held on the occasion of Ganga Dussehra is the most important festival of Dhanaulti attracting a large influx of pilgrims and tourists alike.


Unlike most hill stations that are crowded and cramped for space, Dhanaulti offers a lovely natural travelling experience in the magnificent Garhwal region with serene natural hotspots, abundant tree lines and waterfalls making it one of the upcoming popular hill resorts in Uttrakhand.
