Ellora has a typical tropical climate and attracts tourist all across the year. The summer season running from March to May are typically hot and sticky and may be a tad inconvenient for international tourists. The temperatures in summers reach a maximum of 40 degrees Celsius and dry heat can be sapping and tiring. The summers are followed by rainy monsoon season from June to September brining relief from the dry summer months. The caves remain open during the rainy season and tourists can get a glimpse of nature’s abundant beauty in the rains. Winters from November to January are pleasant and moderately cold with temperatures dipping to 10 degrees Celsius. The winter season is not as harsh as some of the cities in North and central India and is a good time to visit and explore the magnificent Ellora in all its age old charm and beauty.

How To Reach

By Road:

Ellora lies at a distance of 30 Kms from Maharashtra’s big industrial city of Aurangabad having good connectivity and potent road network. Reaching Ellora by road is a convenient option for tourists and Maharashtra state transport buses run on regular intervals from big cities like Pune (235 kms) and Mumbai (372 kms).

By Air:

Ellora does not have an airport facility and the nearest airport is located in the city of Aurangabad at a distance of 30 Kms from Ellora city center. Aurangabad airport connects Ellora to all major cities of India with regular flights from Mumbai and New Delhi. For the international travelers, Mumbai airport located at a distance of 400 Kms is the nearest airport from Ellora. Regular bus and cab services are available from Mumbai as well as Aurangabad and Ajanta to visit Ellora.

By Rail:

Ellora does not have a dedicated railway station and the nearest railway station is located at a distance of 30 Kms in Aurangabad city. Aurangabad railway station has a good dedicated railway service connecting the city to all corners of India including regular train services from Bangalore, Pune, Mumbai and Hyderabad. Dedicated buses and taxis are freely available for tourists to visit Ellora from Aurangabad railway station.


Ellora also known as Ellooru is one of the most visited tourist places in India. Located at a distance of 30 kilometers from the city of Aurangabad in Maharashtra, Ellora is home to beautiful and magnificent rock cut cave monuments showcasing architectural and spiritual brilliance of ancient India. Several carts and shops also sell a lot of traditional beads and hand carved statues of Budha and other Hindu Gods that offer a good shopping opportunity. Ellora being a tourist hub offers all kinds of food eateries serving typical Maharashtrian dishes to South Indian food. Stalls offers fresh fruit juices are freely available near the cave complex.
