Sonamarg due to its location amid the Kashmir Valley experiences moderate summers and harsh winter season. The summer months from May to August are moderate and pleasant with maximum temperatures in the range of 25-30 degrees Celsius. The monsoon rains lash the valley in August and September brining cold winds dropping the temperatures between 10-15 degrees Celsius. The winter months from October to March are cold and chilly with temperatures reaching below the freezing point in December and January. No trekking and adventure excursion are carried out in the winter season. The best time to visit Sonamarg is in the summer months between June and September.

How To Reach

By Road:

Sonamarg is well connected to all major cities of the Kashmir Valley. Driving to Sonamarg from Srinagar can take up to 3 hours covering a distance of 70 Kms. National capital New Delhi is located at a distance of 950 Kms from Sonamarg. Kashmir state transport corporation has a regular influx of tourist’s buses plying between Jammu and Sonamarg and Srinagar and Sonamarg.

By Air:

Sonamarg does not have a dedicated airport facility and the nearest airport is the one located in Srinagar at a distance of 70 Kms. Srinagar airport is well connected to all major Indian cities having regular flights from New Delhi, Amritsar and Chandigarh. Cabs and buses are freely available at the Srinagar airport to reach Sonamarg.

By Rail:

Sonamarg does not have a dedicated railway station and the closest railway stations are the ones located in Udhampur (246 Km) and Jammu (2975 Kms). Jammu railway station is well connected to all parts of India with regular train services from Mumbai (Swarak Exp), New Delhi and Kolkata. Local buses and taxis are freely available at the Jammu railway station to reach Sonamarg.
