The hill station of Tansen experiences moderate climatic conditions being established at an altitude of 1310 meters. The temperature in the region does not cross the 28° C mark during the season of summer. The weather is lovely during monsoon season as it is comparatively warm. The average minimum temperature in Tansen during the winter season is 8° C. The region receives little amount of precipitation in winter. The best time to visit Tansen is the month of October.

How To Reach

By Road:

Tansen is situated at a distance of only 65 km from the Indian border of Sunauli. Private buses bound for Tansen are available from New Delhi, Kathmandu and Pokhara. The town of Tansen is accessible via car since the roads are good from Butwal in the south and Pokhara in the north.


By Air:

One of the busiest airports in Nepal, the Bhairahawa Airport is situated close to the town of Tansen. It can be reached via the capital city of Nepal-Kathmandu. Taxis or jeeps are available from the airport to the city.



By Rail:

Regular trains are available from New Delhi to Tansen. Tansen can be reached from the city of Kolkata via Gorakhpur after transferring to narrow gauge line to Nautanwa.

The picturesque town of Tansen is located in the western region of Nepal. This hill station that lies between Lumbini, the birthplace of the Buddha and Pokhara is a popular tourist centre. It also serves as the headquarters of the district of Palpa in Nepal.

 

Tansen lies on the way to the famous pilgrim centre in Nepal- Muktinath. So this beautiful and unspoilt rustic land will be a must visit even if you are on a pilgrimage in Nepal. The ethnic architecture and traditional art forms of the town of Tansen reflects its rich legacy. The streets are full of ancient Rana buildings, Newari buildings, pagodas which has got a quaint charm all around.

 

Situated on the lap of the majestic Srinagar Hill, the town provides a spectacular panoramic view of the snow capped Himalayas all around along with the Terai plains. Tansen is a paradise not only for nature lovers but also for adventure loving travellers. Several popular trekking routes in Nepal pass through Tansen.

 

The history of this small town dates back to the 16th century. The majority of the citizens of Tansen are Newars who migrated to the region in the 19th century when opportunities for trade began to increase.

 

Tansen is renowned for its textiles and handicrafts. Traditional Nepali caps as well as shawls made from Dhaka textiles are sold in the stores. The karuwa, a bronze jug, is an extremely popular souvenir of Tansen. The organic coffee produced in the region and its nearby vicinities has received international attention in recent times.

 

The cuisine in Tansen is a combination of various dishes. Some restaurants serve excellent Newari food. Tibetan and Nepali dishes are common. Delicious momo and thukpa is served piping hot at many eateries along with chowmein. Drinks are served in a few establishments.
