There is no rail head in Thekkady. The nearest railway station is Kottayam, which is located at a distance of 114 kms from Thekkady. Daily trains are available from here to Chennai, Bangalore, Delhi, Kolkata and Mumbai. Kochi railway station is also near to Thekkady with a distance of 165 kms.

Thekkady, the house of Periyar Wild Life Sanctuary is a prominent tourism destination in Kerala. Periyar Wild Life Sanctuary is one of the biggest wild life reserves in India and is visited by travelers round the year. The very name Thekkady for Keralites stands for elephants, lakes, thick jungles and unending spice plantations. The famous Kerala spices such as pepper, cardamom, cloves and cinnamon abundantly grows here making the air filled with its fresh aroma.

 

Thekkady is a hill station located in the Cardamom Hills of Western Ghats at an altitude of 900m-1800m, close to the Kerala - Tamil Nadu border. Kerala’s famous holy river Pamba originates here. Thekkady’s dense green forests and ‘savanna’ grass lands are enchanting with many endangered species of animals and a wide variety of flora.
