Sukhna Lake:

The Sukhna Lake is a beautiful manmade lake built on a seasonal stream in Sector 1 of Chandigarh city. Sukhna Lake is immensely popular with the local population as well as tourists as a picnic and recreation spot in the city. Geographically speaking, The Sukhna Lake is a 3 square kilometer water body created by damming the Sukhna Choe and surrounded tree lines. Apart from being a popular tourist destination, Sukhna Lake is also a well known bird watcher's paradise. Many species of aquatic birds from Central Asia and Siberia flock to the Lake during winter months. Sukhna Lake has something for everyone -for regular long walkers, leisure mongers and adventure junkies can opt for water sport activities including boating, yachting and water skiing. The lake also holds the annual Asian rowing championships every year and is well maintained and cleaned periodically by local resident associations and volunteers.


Rock Garden:  

An astonishing creation of exquisite artwork made from industrial and urban waste, Chandigarh Rock Garden is one of its kind and a jewel in the crown of Chandigarh city. Designed, conceptualized and created by a retired road inspector named Nek Chand, the garden holds the distinction of being a prime example of human innovation and creative artwork. Built and designed as an open-air exhibition hall, Rock Garden is spread over an expanse of 64 acres with various sculptures made up of broken ken glass bangles, china ware, discarded fluorescent tubes along with picturesque waterfalls, puddles and statues. The Rock Garden located in Sector 1 between the Capitol Complex and Sukhna Lake is open to public from 10 am to 7 pm except on Thursdays and public holidays.


International Dolls Museum:  

International Dolls Museum located in sector 23 in Chandigarh city has the distinction of having wide collection of dolls and puppets covering the variant art of more than 25 countries. Established in the year 1985, it was initially set up to entertain kids but has grown prominence as a tourist hotspot for the young and old alike. Special toy train in the museum is an added incentive for the kids.

Rose Garden:

Rose garden has become synonymous with Chandigarh and is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Chandigarh city. Located in sector, the Chandigarh Rose Garden is spread over an area of 25 hectares containing over a thousand varieties of roses. Also known as the Dr. Zakir Rose Garden named after India's former President, Zakir Hussain, the garden apart from their gorgeous roses is home to thousands of trees with immense medicinal value. Rose garden serves as the venue for hosting the annual festival of gardens, a major cultural event of the city.


Children Traffic Park:

Infamous for being a nation with bad driving sense, the Chandigarh administration leads a helping hand in creating traffic awareness amongst the kids in the city’s Children Traffic Park located in sector 23. Roads have been constructed in the park along with traffic lights for the safety of children learning how to cycle and educational and road safety awareness programs are offered on a weekly basis.


Museum of the Evolution of Life:  

The Museum of the Evolution of Life located in Sector 10 is a must visit place for history enthusiasts and children. The artifacts stored in the museum dates back to 5,000 years, from the time of the Indus Valley Civilization. The museum has on display a vast variety of evolutionary items and is a pertinent place for those who are attracted to evolutionary studies.


Chandigarh Golf Course:

Chandigarh is a vibrant sports loving city giving ample opportunities to tourists and travelers. The Chandigarh Gold Course is situated just off the popular Sukhna Lake and is one of the posh golf courses in India today. Chandigarh Bougainvillea Park:

Chandigarh Bougainvillea Park, located in sector 3 is a unique garden containing more than 65 distinctive varieties of Bougainvillea shrubs. The park initiated in 1976 covers a large collection of bowers, arches, pavilions and arcades. The popular annual Bougainvillea show in the park attracts huge crowds. The park is also ideal for leisurely walks escapades over the surrounding track.


Botanical Gardens:

Chandigarh Botanical Gardens is a popular tourist destination in the city. There are two botanical gardens in Chandigarh, one located in the Punjab University and another between the Rock Garden and Sukhna Lake in Sector 1. Both the gardens are home to distinctive varieties of plants including evergreen and exotic plants. The dazzling lotus flowers are one of the prime most attractions in the Botanical gardens making it a tourist photographer’s delight.


Fitness Trail & Flower Garden:

Another famous garden in Chandigarh is the Fitness trail and flower gardens located in Sector 10.The Fitness Trail and Flower Gardens cover a total area of 94 acres, out of which 52 acre land consists of gorgeous seasonal flowers and sculptors. It serves as the apt place for long walks and physical workouts for the young and old while offering a scenic flower background offering natural beauty in abundance.


Mansa Devi Temple:  

For the religious minded, a trip to Chandigarh is incomplete without offering prayers at the popular Mansa Devi temple located around 8 Kms from the city center near Panchkula. Established in the year 1815 A.D by the ruler of Mani Majra and people from far and wide come pay homage to the goddess. During Navratras, fairs take place in the surrounding areas of Mansa Devi temple.

Bhakra Nangal Dam: 

Bhakra Nangal Dam situated at Bhakra village in Bilaspur is 116 kms away from Chandigarh. The Bakhra Nangal Dam is one of the highest straight gravity dams in the world surrounded by the Gobind Sagar Lake. The Bhakra Dam built in the year 1963 offers a mesmerizing view of the lake and the nearby green jungles.


Pinjore Gardens:  

Pinjore Gardens also known as Yadavindra Gardens is situated about 20 kms away from the city of Chandigarh. It is popular for hosting the annual mango festival. According to the Hindu mythology, Pandava brothers had rested in these very gardens during their exile. The garden houses a mini zoo, a Japanese garden and a popular nursery and therefore one of the popular picnic spots near Chandigarh.



This is an exciting amusement park spread over 30 acres. It houses many thrilling rides and is an ideal place for a family entertainment.


Terraced Garden:

Located at Sector 33, this garden is spread over 10 acres and is famous for its illuminated musical fountain. It is another favourite hang out place of the city dwellers especially dues to its soothing environment and beauty.  The garden also houses the annual Chrysanthemums show.


Leisure Valley:

Leisure valley is another popular picnic spot in Chandigarh with several gardens.  It starts from Rajendra Park in Sector-1 and is extended till the Bougainvillea garden in sector 3. It is the venue the Chandigarh carnival, a three daylong annual extravaganza.


Bougainvillae Garden:

Bougainvillea Garden is a prominent tourist spot in Chandigarh at Sector-3. Spread at 20 acres, there are more than fifty attractive varieties of bougainvilleas shaped in several interesting figures and clusters. The annual Bougainvillea festival here is a big crowd puller.
