Madikeri or Mercara is the head quarters of Coorg district. It is a world record holder for its cardamom plantations and thereby offers stunning views amidst spice estates. The Madikeri Fort and palace rebuilt by Tippu Sultan is a famous heritage place of Karnataka with a Ganesha temple at the entrance.


Omkareshwara Temple: 

close to Madikeri is a small andbeautiful structure in the middle of a square lake with an all pervading mystic aura.  With Islamic and Gothic flavor in its structure, it is one of the important heritage structures in Karnataka.


Watch sunset, enjoy the scenic beauty around, sitting relaxed and with some fun at Raja's Seat. It was here the Kings of Madikeri palace previously used to sit and watch the sunsets and the breath taking view around.



The place is the source of river Kaveri and is one of the popular spots in Coorg, especially because of the scenic beauty around. Located 44 kms from Madikkeri, here is a beautiful temple dedicated to Lord Brahma, which is one of the few in the entire South Asia.



Nisargadhama is a beautiful island in Kaveri river, 28 kms from Madikeri. This 64-acre island can be exploited by walking across a hanging bridge. An enviable time can be spent here with activities like boating, water sports and elephant rides.  Thick foliage of bamboo groves, teak and sandalwood trees that spread great fragrance makes it an unrivalled romantic spot. Choosing a guest house or cottage here will be a great idea.


Iruppu and Abbey Falls:

Iruppu falls in the Brahmagiri range of Coorg is a beautiful water fall surrounded by forest ranges and wildlife. Forget the world and drench yourself in this cool nature’s shower. The nearby famous Rameshwara Temple also draws tourists to this otherwise quiet spot.


Abbi Falls:

Is 7 kms fromMadikeri town and one of the beautiful spots in Coorg. The swelling streams at high altitudes in Western Ghats splash hard here against huge rock boulders with gushing sounds and sprays around. The road to Abbey Falls with its hairpin turns and bends among green plantations is a real treat to eyes.



Kakkabe, 38 kms from Madikeri, is south east Asia’s largest producer of honey. Visiting the honey farms, local vibes and temples here is a great experience. The Nalnad Palace, which was built as a hunting lodge, is also a good location to relax in privacy.


Wildlife Camps:

The elephant camp ‘Dubare’, situated along the banks of Kaveri, 15 kms from Kushalanagar is a wonderful spot where you can enjoy elephant rides, rafting, fishing, trekking and nature walks. Karnataka Government has jungle resorts here. You can also visit Nagarahole National Park, a little far away, if you are interested in wildlife, streams and beautiful valleys.



Bylekuppe near Kushalanagar, 36 kms from Coorg is a Tibetan settlement in south India. One can have a look at the great monasteries or ‘gompas’ whose golden statues of Buddha are famous. The Great Gompa of Sera Je, Sera Mey and the Namdroling monastery are the three most visited ones here.



Somwarpet is known as the coffee heartland of Coorg. You may pass through some of the finest coffee estates in the country in a great background with many towering trees.  The Basappa Club at Somwarpet is another attraction where you could have some relaxing moments playing Table Tennis or Snooker.

Coorg offers many exciting outdoor activities like elephant rides, trekking, angling, boating and rafting. Golf lovers have facilities in Mercara Downs (Mercara), Coorg Golf Links (Bittangala) and at the Golf Course (Pollibetta). The Tadiandamol, Brahmagiri and Pushpagiri peaks are the renowned trekking area here.
