Rumtek Monastery: 

This three storeyed16th century monastery standing at a height of 5,800 ft, is a fine example of Tibetan architecture.  It is 24 kms from Gangtok and houses many great paintings. The marvellous four storied golden sculpture called ‘Ghanzira’ on its peak is its main attraction.


Phodong Gompa: 

This is one of the most beautiful monasteries in India. It is located at Phodong village, North of Gangtok.  It was built in 18th century and houses more than 260 Buddhist monks. 


Nathula Pass: 

This is the border between India and China in the Tibetan plateau. It is located 54 kms east of Gangtok. The place is very appealing for its tranquility and beauty. The view of Chinese soldiers and tourists on the other side marking the separation is exciting. A drive to this beautiful place at 14,400 ft is a life-time experience.


Tsongmo Lake: 

This is a popular tourist spot 35 kms from Gangtok and at an altitude of 12310 ft. The road to the spot itself is very beautiful with snow covered hills around. Tsongmo is a calm lake with lush greenness and many romantic corners. You can also enjoy boating in this placid water enjoying the beautiful landscape.


Namgayal Institute of Tibetology:

For those who feel that a journey to the mysterious past is romantic, this is a unique institute that tell tales of Buddhism and the Tibetian traditions. It houses a rare and curious collection of sacred Buddhist objects like kapali (sacred bowl made from a human skull) and human thighbone trumpets, Buddhist coins, icons, manuscripts, tapestry, paintings etc.


Enchey Monastery: 

This two centuries old monastery is an architectural marvel and is famous for the annual mask dance called 'Cham' happening in the month of January.


Flower Exhibition Centre: 

The flower Exhibition Centre houses an amazing variety of seasonal flowers, orchids and bonsais. It is open only from April to June and September to November. April is the best month to visit the place as orchids will be in full bloom here.


Jawaharlal Nehru Botanical Garden: 

This is atemperate oak forest 24kms from Gangtok and at an altitude of 2200 mtrs. The place is blessed with many rare tree species and romantic spots. The adjoining Fambongla Wildlife Sanctuary is also worth visiting.

Visiting time: 10:00 hrs to 16:00 hrs.


Ganesh Tok:

Ths is a small temple of lord Ganesh on a hillock 7km away from Gangtok. Ganesh Tok offers perfect picture scenery around and a great view of Gangtok town. This place is festooned in colourful prayer flags. Mornings are ideal to enjoy the un spoilt beauty here and to click some great snaps. For spiritual travellers this peaceful temple ambience is perfect for meditation.


Tashi View Point: 

Tashi View Point is located at 6 kms from Gangtok. It offers a great view of Mt. Siniolchu and Mt. Kanchenjunga. The best time to go up to the view point is early morning. Travellers on the way to Ganesh tok can stop here for a break and spend few unforgettable moments.


Hanuman Tok: 

This is another peacefultemple surrounded by hills and mountains, 8 kms from Gangtok. The view of Khangchendzonga from the temple compound is amazing .


Himalayan Zoological Park: 

This is the only place in India where you could spot red pandas, Himalayan bears, barking deers and snow leopards in extensive wooded enclosures.


Khangchendzonga National Park: 

This is Sikkim’s largest wildlife and biosphere reserve, sprawling across 850 sq km. It includes the beautiful Zemu Glacier.


M G Marg and Lal Bazaar: 

These two commercial hubs of Gangtok are full of shops, hotels and restaurants.  Shop here for souvenirs, curios, wall hangings, carpets, leather goods, dresses, paintings, prayer wheels. The place is also famous for its shops selling Tibetan bronze, silver and coral jewellery, semi precious stones etc.


Saramsa Garden: 

This is a local picnic spot in Gangtokwith many leisure activities. The garden is famous for its orchids and rare tropical plants.


Ban Jhakri Falls:

This beautiful small park is an ideal place to spend some relaxing moments sway from the crowd.
