Pangong Lake:

Pangong Lake located at an elevation of 4350 meters above sea level is one of the largest back water lakes in Asia. Pangong Lake was once a freshwater lake but its water has turned saline over the years. Pangong Lake is located approximately 175 kms from Leh across the Chang la pass. The ever changing hues of the Pangong Lake attract a large number of nature lovers and tourists from all over the world. Panging Lake with its serene natural surroundings and diverse flora and fauna is a photography lover’s delight. Despite being a saline water Lake, Pangong Lake freezes completely in the winter season. The best time to visit Pangong is during May to September. The Lake is home to a large number of water birds including migratory birds from Trans Siberia. Some of popular species of birds flocking the Pangong Lake include Brahmani Ducks and black necked cranes. Due to its close proximity to India China border and the ceasefire line of actual control, tourists need prior permission or the Inner Line Permit to visit the Pangong Lake.
